Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking Routes

To climb Mount Batur, there are 4 trekking routes that you must know. Think carefully before you decide where you will travel to the top of Mount Batur. So in this article we will discuss the 4 trekking routes of Mount Batur. Each route offers a unique perspective of the stunning surroundings. let’s check it below

1. Through Toya Bungkah Route

This is the most popular route starting from Toya Bungkah village. The route is relatively easy so it is suitable for beginners. Along the way, you will pass through dense forests and enjoy panoramic views.

The rute Via Toya Bungkah is not too steep. Almost 80% of the climbing route via Toya Bungkah is easy. This route has been made since 2017 by the Mount Batur motorbike taxi association, even motorbikes with large cc can easily pass this climbing route up to the 80% point (approximately at an altitude of 1650 meters above sea level). The rest is a 15-20 minute journey over rocks that are not so steep.

This trekking route is located on the east side of Mount Batur. This route also has 3 view point areas, at the 50% point, the 80% point and at the main peak. The advantage is that if you feel tired you can see the sunrise from the three view point options and adjust it to your own fitness level.

Most of your journey will pass through shady forests filled with acacia trees and eucalyptus trees and various other types of trees. So if you climb Mount Batur to see the sunrise, on the way down you won’t feel hot when you pass through these trees.

2. Start from Serongga

The starting point for the Serongga route in Banjar Serongga, Songan Village, Kintamani. The location is approximately 5 km to the northeast of the Toya Bungkah parking lot so you have to leave early because the location is quite far.

Approximately 30 minutes before the top you will pass a very slippery sandy road. So you need extra energy if you decide to go this route.
There is only one view point, namely at the top, so like it or not you have to be fit because to be able to see the sunrise or a good view you can only see it from the top (1717 meters above sea level)

3. Pasar Agung Temple Route

This route is famous for its challenging terrain and steep climbs. Recommended for experienced climbers who want a more adventurous trip.

The climbing route via Pasar Agung is the shortest route. To get to the belly of Mount Batur, you can access it by car or motorbike. To reach this climbing route, you first have to pass through Jati Temple and head to Pasar Agung Batur Temple.

After arriving at Pasar Agung Temple, you can immediately start climbing. You will pass through quite steep and long rocks with a duration of around 30 to 40 minutes. After passing these rocks you will arrive at the second peak of Mount Batur. By local people, this peak is better known as Puncak Kanginan.

Well, actually from the peak of Kanginan you can see the sunrise from a height of around 1,570 meters above sea level. However, if you want to see a more amazing view, you have to continue the journey to the main peak. Here it takes an additional time of around 30 minutes via sandy roads which are quite slippery.

If you decide to climb Mount Batur via/through Pasar Agung, we strongly recommend that you wear shoes with good grip. This is because of the rock and sand terrain that you will pass through during the climb. If you have a stick, it would be even better if you bring it. The stick will support your body and make your balance better.

4. Via Culali Rute

This is the longest route with a fairly long travel time of up to 2.5 – 3 hours climbing from the parking lot to the main peak. We do not recommend this climbing route if you climb in the dark because the sandy and rocky path you will pass is quite long. Through this route we can also see the second crater (new crater) of Mount Batur which last erupted in 2000
